Dr. Daniel Thorniley is Senior Vice President at the Economist Group in Vienna and Senior Consultant on global corporate business trends, with specialisation in USA, Europe, East-Central Europe, Russia and Mid-East & Africa and emerging markets. Daniel gives regular briefings lasting from one hour up to two days to client companies at HQs in Europe, Middle East and North America on the business environment, corporate case studies, market entry and development, banking, financing, politics and the economic situation. Each year he makes ten in-house presentations to the chairman or CEO of major US and European companies – including, ABN-Amro Bank, IBM, Dow, Dupont, Eaton, Eli Lilly, Emerson, Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg, Kimberly Clark, Nycomed and Pioneer among many others.
He is also the Economist Group's principal chairman and speaker at conferences and Government Roundtables and invited guest speaker: these number 6-8 per annum in Western Europe, East Central Europe and the Middle East and Africa with audiences of 50-250 participants.
Daniel is a regular guest speaker on the MBA course at the University of Chicago as well other universities. He has a special interest in Human Resources issues and is acknowledged as a sought after expert in Central European and Russian, formerly Soviet affairs. A regular contributor to The Economist and frequently interviewed by the press and TV Daniel began his career with a short period spent at the United Nations.
